Barco Brasil’s next challenge is the Ilhabela International Sailing Week
Barco Brasil secured fourth place in the HPE-25 class at Ilhabela Monotype Week 2024.
The event, held at the Lars Grael Sailing School, concluded this Sunday (14) and brought together several categories in four days of racing.
The team composed of José Guilherme Pereira Caldas, Guto Campelo, Juliana Duque and Rafael Martins fought for the title from start to finish, finishing tied on points with Crazy Phoenix, who took bronze thanks to the tie-breaking criteria.
Gold was won by Pé de Vento and silver by Ginga.
Nine races were held on the São Sebastião Channel. Most of the races were characterized by cooler temperatures and rough seas on the north coast of São Paulo.
“The HPE-25 is training for the round-the-world race, which will be a seven-month offshore challenge with six legs. We didn’t expect this result in the Monotypes; we expected a position a little further back in the standings, but everything is going well for Barco Brasil,” said José Guilherme Caldas.

Last month, the same team won bronze in the Mitsubishi Cup – Circuito Ilhabela de Vela Oceânica, held over two weekends in Ilhabela (SP). They also achieved a podium finish at the VelaShow Regatta, a parallel event to the 100% Vela fair, highlighted by the Around the World exhibition.
Rafael Martins and Juliana Duque are two-time Brazilian snipe champions and Pan American medalists in Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023. Juliana Duque from Bahia is also a three-time world snipe champion.
Barco Brasil’s next challenge is the Ilhabela International Sailing Week, which will take place from July 20 to 27 at the Ilhabela Yacht Club. For this competition, the team will use the Mussulo 55 boat.
