Pixar’s hit film series “Inside Out!” explores the complexity of human emotions from an insider’s perspective inside a young girl’s mind.
However, this concept is not exclusive. Other films have also ventured into the universe of the human psyche, creating stories that take place in the minds of the characters.

The Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Critically acclaimed, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” follows Joel (Jim Carrey), who discovers that his ex-girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has erased him from her memory through an experimental procedure.
When Joel decides to do the same, the film takes place in his mind, following the process of erasing his memories with Clementine. The film is directed by Michel Gondry and written by Charlie Kaufman.
The Cell (2000)

Jennifer Lopez stars in the sci-fi thriller “The Cell” as a psychologist who uses an experimental device to enter the minds of comatose patients.
However, an FBI agent (Vince Vaughn) convinces the psychologist to enter the mind of a comatose serial killer (Vincent D’Onofrio) to locate his latest victim, who is hiding in a cell filled with water.
Beginning (2010)

The sci-fi action film “Inception” explores the invasion and manipulation of dreams to implant ideas into people’s subconscious, delving into the depths of the human mind.
Leonardo DiCaprio plays an expert in hacking dreams to steal secrets from the subconscious.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, the film features a strong cast, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Elliot Page, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine.
Paprika (2006)

Japanese animation directed by cult classic Satoshi Kon, “Paprika” has a complex and surreal plot.
In the plot, a psychotherapist uses experimental technology to enter her patients’ dreams. However, when the technology is stolen, chaos ensues.

The satirical horror “American Psycho” stars Christian Bale as an 1980s yuppie who leads a double life as a Wall Street investment banker and serial killer.
However, a twist suggests that the events may be the result of the protagonist’s imagination or illusion.
Based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis, the film stars Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Chloë Sevigny, Justin Theroux and Reese Witherspoon.

The thriller “The Passage” features names like Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts and Ryan Gosling in a convoluted and intentionally confusing plot.
The story follows Sam, a psychiatrist (McGregor) who tries to prevent his patient Henry (Gosling) from committing suicide. As the narrative progresses, events become increasingly surreal and confusing.
However, in the result, it is revealed that all the events happened in Henry’s mind, as a hallucination or a dream triggered by a car accident. The other characters in the film, in fact, were witnesses of the accident.

In the thriller “Identity,” a group of strangers are trapped in an isolated motel during a storm. They are mysteriously murdered one by one.
However, a twist reveals that all the characters trapped in the motel are manifestations of the mind of a convicted murderer who suffers from dissociative identity disorder.
The film is directed by James Mangold (“Logan”) and stars John Cusack, Ray Liotta, Amanda Peet, Alfred Molina, Clea DuVall and Rebecca De Mornay.

The Spanish thriller “Trapped in Darkness” follows César (Eduardo Noriega), a wealthy and attractive man who, after a terrible accident, is left disfigured and begins to question his sanity.
In the film’s climax, César discovers that his life after the accident was nothing more than a dream based on his memories, created by a cryonics company.
Directed by Alejandro Amenábar, the film also stars Penélope Cruz. It won the Hollywood remake “Vanilla Sky” in 2001.
