The trailer for Captain America: Brave New World, which will be the first MCU film in 2025, subtly introduced fans to the version of Red Hulk in the final scene – and many are wondering who exactly the character is.
One of Marvel Comics’ most powerful villains will make his first big-screen appearance in the MCU, facing off against Sam Wilson’s Captain America. Red Hulk is expected to play a major role throughout the film, and possibly the future of the MCU as a whole.
Who is the Red Hulk in Captain America 4?
According to the character information of wonderRed Hulk has superhuman strength, being able to lift 100 tons. He also has great stamina and durability in combat and can regenerate from serious injuries in minutes.
When Red Hulk is enraged, his skin generates intense heat, which can also be released through his eyes, and is strong enough to melt Spider-Man’s webs or turn sand into glass. Unlike Banner’s Hulk, Red Hulk does not revert to his human form when he is unconscious.
The Origins of Red Hulk
Long before he became the Red Hulk, since his creation by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, General Thadeus “Thunderbolt” Ross has been portrayed as a rather gruff American military man, a product of generations of his family having served in the military.
Ross was the military attaché for the gamma bomb project in New Mexico that transformed scientist Bruce Banner into the Hulk. He resented the fact that Dr. Banner had final say on the project instead of him, a decorated officer. Since then, his obsession has been to capture the Hulk.
The Leader and MODOK then convince Ross to become an evil Hulk to get revenge on Bruce Banner. MODOK then gave General Ross the powers of the Hulk, using the organization Intelligencia to create a new super soldier program, recreating the accident that gave Banner his powers.
MODOK therefore combined gamma radiation with cosmic rays to give Ross his powers. The cosmic ray part of the process caused Ross to turn red, not green, as it replaced the gamma part of the equation.
