Senate Committee Creates Working Group to Discuss Tax Regulation

GT will discuss the text and present the amendments to the rapporteur, Eduardo Braga, who can decide whether or not to accept them.

BRASILIA-A Committee on Economic Affairs (CAE) From Senate has decided to create a working group to monitor the progress of the regulation of art. tax reformThe group will have no power over the report of the proposal, which will be edited by the senator Eduardo Braga (MDB-AM).

The work will be similar to that which occurred during the preparation of the proposed amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that established the tax reform. The working group will analyze the topic and present a series of amendments to the rapporteur, who will decide whether to accept them or not.

The GT rapporteur will be Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF), who intends to publish a work plan for the group in the coming weeks. Public hearings will be held to support the proposed amendments to the complementary bill presented last week to the Chamber of Deputies.

The creation of the working group is expected to bolster arguments from some senators that more time is needed to consider tax reform regulation in the upper chamber of Congress. The bill is being processed on an urgent basis, requiring a vote within 45 days of its receipt by the Senate Board of Trustees.

At the leaders’ meeting on Thursday 11, government and opposition senators asked the government to withdraw this urgency so that the text can be discussed by the end of the year. The government has already indicated that it should accept this suggestion, the report notes.
