The typography of the title on the poster remains the same. Except that it’s now written in the plural and that the producers of Jurassic World changed it to Jurassic Park (which are effectively the same) as a selling point. But what connects a twister to a twister, beyond the existence of tornadoes?
Or, to put it another way, there is a Lee Isaac Chung (Minar) film expected to hit our theaters this Wednesday, July 17, a sequel or reboot of Jan de Bont (Speed), which was released on August 21, 1996. on our screens and which attracted (and undoubtedly amazed) 2,564,252 viewers? Answer: Both.
Twisters is a sequel to Twister because both movies are set in Oklahoma (where they were filmed). And that they have in common Dorothy, this device that contains a lot of sensors that allow them to track the tornado after it has been absorbed. The characters of the feature film 2024 use it to carry out their mission, and we can say, to simplify, that their actions are possible thanks to what Bill (Bill Paxton) and Jo Harding (Helen Hunt) achieved in 1996.
But Twisters could also be considered a Twister reboot, in that none of the characters from the first film return in one way or another. However, we expected Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones) or Tyler (Glenn Powell) to be Bill and Jo’s child, that the late Bill Paxton would make an appearance thanks to a photo, and that Helen Hunt would be there. But no.
Director Lee Isaac Chung’s film stands on its own by introducing a whole new gallery of characters. And, at our microphone, the director admits no guilt when we ask why we can’t find any of the old ones: “All these choices were made before I took the job”He answers us.
It’s also a tribute to Twister not to try to repeat what’s been done
“Mark L. Smith and Joseph Kosinski They developed this story together, they made this decision. When Joseph left the film and they were looking for a new director, I was the one who replaced him and I based this already written script on the choices they made.
“I didn’t feel more free because I felt like we had to honor what people loved about the first movie. I approached it as a Twister fan, knowing that Jan de Bont had built a great house that I was going to walk into. So , I had to honor it instead of killing it, and make sure it was different for me.
So it’s not mandatory to (re)watch Twister to learn all about Twisters. But it can be used to understand how Dorothy works (even if it’s very clear in the new opus) and visualize how the 2024 film fits into the spirit of 1996. With this overall goal of impressing. we.
