‘We survived the worst’: An Emergency reboot with Noah Wyle was on the way, and here’s why it wouldn’t be a good idea

what’s up doc Actor Noah Wyle revealed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he started thinking about rebooting ER, which could actually be done! In 254 episodes from 1994 to 2009, he played the beloved Dr. Carter.

Here’s what he had to say on the podcast Still here Hollywood :

Former screenwriters remembered

“It was born out of a desire to shine a spotlight on the people on the front line who have tirelessly cared for us over the past five years.

Based on this idea, in consultation with John Wells, the executive producer of ER, as well as several screenwriters of the time, Noah Wyle activated the address book for something that was initially close to a medical reboot of the series:

We brainstormed and talked, before pulling in some former ER writers. We came up with a concept that never took off. (…) there were problems and negotiations never started.

Wile therefore adapted this aborted ER reboot into a new original series, The Pitt, which will take place in a hospital setting, featuring healthcare professionals who encounter a present-day medical center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Wylie will star as the new doctor he introduces to the public.

“We Survived the Worst”

“I wasn’t working and I wasn’t feeling well personally. I found that I didn’t have any useful skills during that time. I was really worried that I wasn’t contributing, and that’s where the idea for this series that I’m making came from.”

“In many ways, it was a blessing, and we avoided the worst because it would have taken over the whole place. It would have been, ‘Hey, this brand is coming back, it’s coming back. And I really wanted the focus to be on what we wanted to say.”

Pitt will launch in 2025 on the Max platform, which has already ordered 15 episodes of the series. Future audience success that equals urgency?
