The film is directed and written by Simon Verhoeven. The main roles are played by Tijan Jie and Elan Ben Ali.
Before the movie, a shocking documentary
The completely insane story of the band Milli Vanilli has recently been told in a documentary simply titled Milli Vanilli, directed by Luke Corem.
As we wrote at the time of the release, this full-length film shows how it all began for the tandem behind Milli Vanilla: two unknown young men, a cunning producer, a contract that could pay big and the rule revealed after signing: “You shall not sing.” It was too late to go back, the car was already running.
The film brilliantly explores the mechanism of manipulation and the professional influence that a powerful producer – here, Frank Farian (deceased since the release of the documentary) – can have on young artists.
We caught up with Fab Morvan, a member of Milli Vanilli:
It’s impossible when we think of Milli Vanilla’s story not to think of another controlled and silenced fate like that of Britney Spears – whose memoir has just been published. The story of a star preoccupied with other issues is very different, but in both cases it is about artists who become objects.
So, from documentary to feature film, the story of Milli Vanilla will become a feature film. A French release date has yet to be announced. The film will be released in the United States on August 9.
