For a long time now, we see his face almost everywhere in the cinema or on television. American comedian Glenn Powell (who the general public met alongside Tom Cruise and starred in Top Gun Maverick 2 years ago) is chasing tornadoes on the big screen this week in the Twister sequel, now clearly part of a new generation of actors. Stay tuned in Hollywood.
Soon to be cast in a new Richard Linklater film, we also saw him in the romantic comedy Everything But You opposite Sydney Sweeney earlier in the year. Expected to follow in Kurt Russell’s footsteps in the Backdraft remake, he’s also set to get back to work restoring his fighter jet in Top Gun 3.
Glenn Powell’s first steps in cinema…
But before that, like all his fellow actors, Glenn Powell had to wait a few years to make a name for himself. Years before Tom Cruise was cast, he began his film career with much more modest roles. However, it’s quite possible that you’ve already seen it without knowing it.
Indeed, while he shared the stage with Tom “Bane” Hardy in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, Glenn Powell took his first steps in acting much earlier.
…that was 21 years ago in Spy Kids 3!
In 2003, 21 years ago today, when he himself was just 15 years old, he shared a brief sequence with Daryl Sabara (aka Junie Cortez) in Spy Kids 3 3D Mission. In the film’s credits, as “the long-fingered kid”, he greeted the young hero upon his arrival at the virtual battle arena and helped him put on his armor.
After this first experience in film, Glenn Powell had a series of small roles in many other projects before his career took another dimension. It wasn’t until 2014, when he joined the new Expendables 3 team, that things started to get serious for him. He’s also in the cast of Scream Queens, and he’s actually taking off in 2022 as one of Tom Cruise’s students, a young pilot hangman in Top Gun Maverick.
