A true icon of 80s movie lovers, Master Miyagi was a model of virtue and cinematic values for all fans of the Karate Kids saga. The popularity of the character derives especially from the incredible interpretation of Pat Morita, who in 1984 was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
A follower of defensive karate, Miyagi has become known for his training techniques that are both original and disturbing. The bond that forms between him and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), a young bully in a gang of bullies, forms the basis of one of the most beautiful friendships in film history.
Miyagi’s dark past was revealed
Passed away in 2005, Pat Morita only appeared in the Cobra Kai series – the official sequel to The Karate Kid – in flashbacks from various films in the saga. However, his disappearance did not end Master Miyagi’s influence on a new generation of karate, quite the contrary.
Now a successful business manager and happy family man, Daniel LaRusso took over the Miyagi-dô dojo to teach his students all the positive values of his master’s karate. A token show, but one that has become a subject of deep question after Cobra Kai’s surprise reveal in the final season.
During the first five episodes that make up the first part of Season 6, Daniel LaRusso opened a trunk of personal belongings belonging to Miyagi. Intrigued by the identity documents that showed the name and date of birth he knew, LaRusso decided to investigate his former master’s past.
A new hybrid form of karate
His investigation shed light on Miyagi’s past. Before becoming a paragon of virtue, the latter stole a valuable necklace to discredit the authorities. This discovery had a profound effect on Daniel LaRusso and led to deep personal reflection.
After a moment of doubt, the former Karate Kid finally realized that this discovery perfectly represented the mutation of Miyagi-do. The Karate School, now headed by Daniel LaRusso, has effectively joined forces with the Poison Eagle School.sicJohnny Lawrence, his former rival, created a new hybrid form of karate that combined the values provided by the two dojos.
Will this final lesson from Miyagi allow Miyagi-do to win over Sekai Takai, who will take center stage in Cobra Kai Season 6 Episode 2? Miguel, Rob, Sam, Eagle, Demetrius and Devon are six participants in a karate tournament organized in Barcelona. The latter in particular will have to face the new recruits of John Creecy’s Cobra Kai, joined by their former partner Tori.
