Brazilian Surfers Arrive in Tahiti, Prepare for Olympic Games Debut

There are six days left until the start of the competition

The training window for surfing at the Olympic Games officially opened this Sunday (21) in the waves of Teahupo’o, in Tahiti. The surfers entered a small sea, but sufficient to start their preparation.

The six athletes who will represent Brazil in the second edition of the sport at the Olympics have already landed on the French island and some of them have taken part in the action. The images released by the International Surfing Association (ISA) show Gabriel Medina and João Chianca venturing towards the summit.

The Brazilian team met for the first time on the island and participated in a photo shoot to publicize the committee’s uniform; the laywomen of the competition have not yet been presented to the public. It is expected that the heats will begin on July 27 with the first phase of both categories.

The scheduled opening time for the competition is 14:00 (Brasília) and the races will last 35 minutes. The ISA’s idea is to complete the entire men’s round 1 and then the women’s round on the first day. In other words, it is likely that surfing will be played until 23:35 (Brasília) on 27/7, so that the final can be played on 31/7.

If this prediction is confirmed, the Brazilian athletes will now be able to organize themselves and think about strategies before entering the water. Discover the Brazilians’ program in the first phase:
