Edgar Jones plays Kate, a retired storm chaser, while Powell plays Tyler, a digital influencer. They end up teaming up to chase a new tornado. Although they meet again in the last scenes, they don’t kiss.

“I found it a little offensive that they didn’t use it,” he joked. Powell referring to a scene that was recorded in which his character and that of Edgar Jones kiss. “Maybe it was just my skills, I don’t know.”

Chungthen explained: “I actually tried the kiss, and it was very polarizing — not because of their performance in the kiss.”

“That was another option that I shot that day,” he continued, mentioning the scene that’s actually being seen in theaters. “And I have to say, I liked it better, I think it’s a better ending.”

Edgar Jones agreed: “It was nice and refreshing not to have to end on that note, because the ending shows two individuals who are so equal in their love, interest, intelligence and understanding of the climate.”

“If it ended with a kiss, it would feel like that’s what Kate’s journey was about — ending with a kiss,” he added. Chung. “But instead, it’s better if it ends with her being able to continue doing what she’s doing with a smile on her face.”
