In one of the first major projects of Matthew Macfadyen’s career, Pride and Prejudice also starred Keira Knightley
Beyond the drama series Successionone of the great successes of HBO in the last years, Matthew Macfadyen is well known for interpreting Mr. Darcy in the romantic comedy Pride and Prejudice (2005), also starring Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Bennet).
During an interview with CBS Morningsthe artist recalled the time of filming, in which he “didn’t have much fun,” although it wasn’t completely bad. “I feel bad saying that. Of course there were moments when I was happy on that set, but I wish I had had more fun, I wish I had worried less about how the audience would receive me,” he said.
Ultimately, I think I just felt like I wasn’t the right actor for the role. I didn’t feel charming enough.
He then explained how he is very happy when people praise his performance in Pride and Prejudice. “It’s probably the most complimentary thing that’s happened to me these days, because almost 20 years have passed,” he said. “I always think about how that means I’m aging well.”
