This Wednesday (24), the Universal images posted a video with the director Jon M. Chu showing how the wonderful world of Oz was built in the upcoming Wicked films, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

The video also features clips documenting how entire villages were built for Emerald City and Munchkinland, the individual hand-painted bricks for the winding Yellow Brick Road, and the planting of approximately 9 million tulips. Chu ordered a real 16-ton train for the scene where Elphaba and Glinda travel to meet the Wizard of Oz, revealing that it took two days to arrive on set due to its colossal weight.
“Many are real, physical, tangible scenarios.”said Ariana, marveling at the production capacity of “create this world in a way we’ve never seen before.”
According to Billboard, the video also includes new footage of co-stars Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, and Ethan Slater performing on set, as well as teasing how the team achieved Grande’s flying bubble special effect using blue screen technology. The first of the two Wicked films is set to arrive on November 22, a week earlier than expected, with the second set for release next year.
