UPA security camera footage released by TV Globo captured the moment a woman entered the unit with her baby at around 3:49 p.m. The woman left the unit without her baby about seven minutes later, at 3:56 p.m.
The footage shows the woman, suspected to be the mother, carrying the baby wrapped in her arms and heading to the bathroom in the ward’s waiting room. Shortly afterward, a cleaning lady entered the bathroom with a bag of garbage, quickly leaving to ask for help.
Three UPA employees went to the bathroom, and one of them came out with the baby in his arms. In the police report, the cleaning lady said she found the baby wrapped in three pillowcases and a red sweatshirt while she was changing the bathroom trash. Next to the baby was a note that read: “Good afternoon. Please take care of him and take him to the doctor.
After being found, the child was examined. The municipality of São Bernardo informed TV Globo that he was taken to the Women’s Hospital, where he is being treated with antibiotics. He is expected to be discharged within 30 days.
In a note sent to EarthThe Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reported that the 6th Police District of São Bernardo do Campo has opened a police investigation to investigate all the circumstances of the events.
“The police authority continues to conduct interviews with hospital staff and other measures aimed at identifying the perpetrator and clarifying the facts,” the SSP added.
