The Black Butler (or Kuroshitsuji) anime is an adaptation of the manga of the same name, illustrated by Yana Toboso, and released in October 2008 in Japan. The story introduces us to the heir and orphan Ciel Phantomhive, who has lost his parents and now seeks revenge with the help of a demon disguised as a private butler.
With the help of this supernatural employee, Ciel must investigate his parents’ deaths to understand the exact context that led to the end of his parents’ lives. Below, check out the synopsis for each of the anime’s previously released seasons.
What is the story of Black Butler?
TO From the anime Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler), we are introduced to the young English count Ciel Phantomhive, who is only 12 years old. However, when the young heir was only 10 years old, an unexpected fire in the mansion killed both of his parents, leaving the child an orphan.
Two years later, he is still angry about what happened and has reason to believe that the fire was not a simple accident. So, to help him clarify these doubts, Ciel summons a demon from another dimension and makes a pact with the supernatural being: the boy promises to donate his soul to the entity in exchange for help with the investigation.
The demon, now called Sebastian Michaelis, accepts the deal and takes on the guise of a butler: Sebastian follows Ciel’s orders without hesitation to ensure that the investigation goes as planned and manages to obtain the boy’s soul as a deal.
As the episodes unfold, the two solve mysterious cases linked to the British aristocratic world and the underworld; and encounter other demons and even angels and reapers.
TO there is the introduction of new prominent characters, such as Count Alois Trancy, whose past is full of pain and tragedy, and his demonic butler, called Claude Faustus. Throughout the episodes, the rivalry between the counts and the demons is explored. This is because Alois believes that Sebastian is responsible for his brother’s death, which will lead to clashes, manipulations and a lot of upheavals.
TOCiel and Sebastian begin to investigate the Noah’s Ark Circus, which seems to be linked to the disappearance of several children. With that, they both infiltrate the place, undercover, to investigate the members and understand their relationship with the missing people.
Already inside and the latest season already released, arrived this year in streaming, Ciel is sent by the Queen of England to investigate a boys’ boarding school, where mysterious disappearances have been recorded.
