Julia Garner will play Shala-Bal, aka the Silver Surfer; Paul Walter Hauser will also be there in an as-yet-undisclosed role. The MCU-branded version will be directed by Matt Shakman, director of the WandaVision episodes. The feature film will hit theaters on July 23, 2025.

A year and a half after Fantastic 4’s casting was announced, filming can finally begin. Pedro Pascal, star of The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, respectively, will play the leader of the Fantastic 4 team: Reed Richards. Vanessa Kirby will play the role of the invisible woman, Sue Storm.

In turn, Joseph Quinn, who was revealed in Stranger Things season 4, will play Johnny Storm, as well as The Human Torch. And finally, Ebon Mos-Bachrach, seen in Andor and Bear, will be Ben Grimm (something). While he waits for his Reed Richards costume, Pedro Pascal heads to the Roman arenas in Gladiator 2, in theaters November 13.

Which villain for Fantastic 4?

Keep in mind that the story will take place in the 60s and should not be a repeat of the previous films, if Kevin Feige is to be believed.

The Marvel Studios boss told the Hollywood Reporter in August 2022: “A lot of people already know the origins of the Fantastic Four. A lot of fans know the basics. The idea is to figure out how to use those elements to create something that audiences have never seen before. We’ve set the bar very high to bring that to the screen.”

On the bad guy side, Galactus, also known as the “Eater of Worlds”, is said to be the main antagonist in this version of Fantastic 4. However, the balance now seems to be tipping towards Dr. Doom (or Fatalis in French), the quartet’s friend-turned-enemy, according to recent rumours. The latter also inspires Mads Mikkelsen, Cillian Murphy or Ben Affleck in his interpretation.

Following the resignation of Jonathan Majors, who was convicted of domestic violence, Kevin Feige Faced with two options: replace him as Kang, or replace him as the big bad of the MCU.

For the second option, Doctor Doom’s name is regularly mentioned, especially since the character has a major role in the comic book Secret Wars, which will be the basis for the 6th film of the Avengers, which is scheduled for release on May 5, 2027.

His introduction in Fantastic 4 could set the stage for the future of the MCU. We’ll be sure to find out more during Marvel’s panel at San Diego Comic Con on July 27.
