Charmed: In honor of Shannen Doherty, here are the best Prue-centric episodes

It’s been almost 20 years since Charmed hit the airwaves and yet, the TV show remains an absolute must in the TV landscape! Launched in 1998 on the WB, the series marked a generation and fans learned of Shannen Doherty’s death.

For three years, the Beverly Hills star played Prue Halliwell, the older sibling. Gifted with the power of telekinesis and the gift of omnipresence, Prudence has long been a real attraction to her sisters. Instinctive, strong and brave, she always wanted to protect those she loved.

But during the last episode of the third season, Shax did what no other demon before him had managed: he revealed the true identity of the three sisters. Due to their vulnerability, he managed to kill Prue. A terrible fate for this charismatic character!

In her honor, and to celebrate Shannen Doherty’s incredible performances throughout the series, here are the best Prue-centric episodes to catch up on.

Charmed – Season 1, Episode 13: As Long as There’s Love

Prue Halliwell in Charmed Season 1 Episode 13

In this episode, taken from the very first season of Charmed and aired on February 10, 1999, the sisters must face the demon of fear: Barba. The latter feeds on the fears of witches! Enough to make him almost invincible.

And while Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) is literally terrified at the thought of one of her sisters dying, Prue is paralyzed by a fear of water after her mother drowns in front of her. Suffice it to say, the demon knows exactly where to strike our heroes.

He decides to kill two birds with one stone and strangle the older siblings in front of Phoebe. However, Prue shows unspeakable courage in this episode as she bravely fights her phobia and gets out of the water in time to save her younger sister. This is a great example of character strength!

Charmed – Season 2, Episode 8: Secret of the Lake

Prue, Piper and Phoebe in Charmed Season 2 Episode 8

Aired on 9 December 1999, this second episode is essentially tied to the previous episode, as the Halliwell sisters return to the location where their mother was murdered. Indeed, this is an opportunity to discover that this is not an accident, but a murder.

But that’s not the only secret they uncover, as they also meet Sam, Patty’s Light Being. Fallen and clearly lost, she lives with terrible guilt after his death, not only because he was her protégé, but also because they were lovers.

A revelation that greatly upsets the three sisters! Especially since the lake demon that drowned the mother reappears. It takes a lot of courage for Prue, still traumatized, to defeat her with her telekinetic powers. Shannen Doherty gives an exceptional performance in this episode.

Charmed – Season 2, Episode 9: Identity Theft

Prue in Charmed Season 2 Episode 9

One of our favorite Prue-centric episodes is the one where she steps into the shoes of a terrifying female assassin. Remember, she decides to usurp Mrs. Hellfire’s identity when she tries to kill the three sisters by planning actual shootings. To find out who is mad at them, Prue takes on the role and meets the handsome Bane.

Immediately, a real game of seduction begins between them. But even as she indulges in this new hectic life, Prue doesn’t forget her true mission and discovers that Barbas is back! Like the first time, he must kill thirteen witches if he wants to escape from the underworld. And he’s teamed up with Banes and the real Ms. Hell to make it happen.

This episode is pivotal for Prue as she reveals her second power: astral projection. Aired on January 13, 2000, it remains one of the most iconic for its character in the hearts of fans.

Charmed – Season 2, Episode 16: A Bad Spell

Prue in Charmed Season 2 Episode 16

In this episode, broadcast on March 30, 2000, Shannen Doherty gives us her most incredible performance of the entire series. While she’s often shown Prue’s strength and determination through her acting, this is one of the first times she’s shown her vulnerability with such skill.

When Prue saves a woman from committing suicide, she becomes the target of a dark entity trying to get rid of the innocent woman. Pushed to the limit, a young woman relives one of the darkest and most painful periods of her life. Under the influence of darkness, he finds himself on the verge of suicide on the bridge.

It will take all the support and love of her sisters to open her eyes and allow her to put an end to this demon that has sworn its doom. An episode that carries a powerful and cautionary message about depression.

Charmed – Season 3 Episode 15: Married At All Costs

Prue in Charmed Season 3 Episode 15

We wrap up with this essential episode! Aired on February 22, 2001, this is the wedding scene of Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Leo (Brian Krause). After several seasons of twists and turns and overcoming obstacles one by one, they are finally ready to say yes to each other.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t count Prue’s doppelgänger, who has decided to live her life the way she wants! Remember, the young woman can now use her universal talents, and when she sleeps, the part of her that dreams of a life without responsibility breaks free and goes to the bar every night to meet a handsome stranger.

And just as Piper and Leo are about to reunite, things take a turn for the worse when Prue’s new boyfriend shows up in Halliwell’s living room on a motorcycle to run off with her. Enough to make this moment totally iconic!
