Darlan curses, responding that he was the top scorer against Italy: ‘What rubbish’

The Olympic debutant, just 22 years old, expressed frustration at the negative result, despite the good individual performance

In front of Darlan Souza did not hide his frustration for the defeat of the Brazilian men’s volleyball team against Italy this Saturday, 27, by 3 sets to 1. In the mixed zone after the match, the athlete cursed in response to a journalist’s question about having been the best scorer of the match, with 25 points.

“It’s shit, because they won the match. It makes no sense for me to score 25, 50 points. I try to score one point and win the match,” said the Brazilian athlete, expressing his dissatisfaction with the result.

The Olympic debutant, just 22 years old, also commented on his experience competing with the Brazilian national team.

“Guys, it was an incredible experience, especially because there are Brazilians everywhere. So it’s like I’m in Brazil, you know? The energy of everyone, the vibrations. And that helps the team a lot in certain moments when we’re a little bit there,” he said.

“Unfortunately we made a mistake in this match, but I was very calm. The group helps me a lot with this problem. It makes me feel very comfortable. They tell me to be myself and I think it works,” he added.

In a very hard-fought match, the team led by Bernardinho was defeated this Saturday, 27, by 3 sets to 1 by Italy, with partial scores of 23/25, 25/27, 25/18 and 21/25 at the Paris Sud Arena. The Brazilian men’s volleyball team has not lost in its Olympic debut since Atlanta 1996.
