Thiago Silva shares credit for Fluminense’s ‘unbeaten’ defense

Since the defender made his debut, the club has won three consecutive games without conceding a goal in the Brazilian championship

Fluminense’s defensive performance has undeniably improved a lot since Thiago Silva made his debut for the club again. Since the match against Cuibabá, the team has won three games without conceding a goal, a streak that also includes a victory over Palmeiras. This Sunday, after the third consecutive 1-0, this time against Bragantino, in the 20th round of the Brazilian championship, the idol and captain of the team shared with his teammates the credit for the defensive improvement.

“The goal is to contribute in every way possible. I don’t play in every game, but every time I play I focus on defensive organization. Even if we don’t score many goals, we concede some. When we score few goals, the priority is to improve the defense. I think we have achieved this. It’s not just Thiago Silva, it’s a collective effort. Today Marquinhos got injured at the end of the game and we had to play with one less player, we make mistakes under pressure, we are vulnerable in defense. Our focus is on defensive organization. Luckily we have been successful and it is the third game in a row without conceding a goal”, he analyzed.

Thiago complains about playing time

The defender, however, criticised the timing of the match, played under a strong sun at the Nabi Abi Chedid stadium.

“People need to consider our health, that of the athletes. They should leave aside what benefits those who determine the game times. It’s almost inhumane, for both sides. It makes no sense. We try to train at 9:30 to avoid the 11 and 12 times, but in Brazil they put the games at those times, with the heat,” he commented.

Previously, the defender had already mentioned the logistical difficulties of the Brazilian league as an additional challenge during his adaptation to Fluminense. Without the expectation of playing all the games, Thiago Silva highlighted the sequence of games during the week and on weekends, which he believes is unfair for the athletes. Your criticisms about the departure time add to the list of observations.
