Rayssa Leal didn’t take off her headphones during the women’s road skating final at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won the bronze medal. The athlete listened to a very diverse playlist throughout the competition, which included different types of national music, from 90s classics to current phenomena.
“If I tell you, you won’t believe it. I’ll show you my playlist. Since I was very anxious, I played ‘Um Amor Puro’, by Djavan. Then ‘Mudar Pra Quê?’, by Nonatos. Then Zezé Di Camargo and Luciano played, ‘It’s Love’, and then L7,” Rayssa revealed to reporters in the interview area shortly after taking the podium.
In addition to the intimate nature of the songs, Rayssa Leal had intense support from Brazilian fans, who filled Praça da Concórdia, to push her to win her second Olympic medal. She trailed in the standings for much of the final, but nailed the last trick and placed third, winning bronze.
In addition to the bronze in Paris-2024, the Brazilian had been silver in Tokyo-2020. At 16 years old, she became the youngest athlete to reach the podium in two different Olympic editions. Rayssa surpassed the milestone of the American jumper Dorothy Poynton-Hill, who was 17 when she won gold in Los Angeles in 1932. Before that, she had won silver in Amsterdam in 1928.
