France and Slovenia start with victory in the men’s field
Group A of the men’s volleyball tournament of the Paris Olympics began on Sunday with two matches. The home team, France, debuted against Slovenia in the first match, defending the title won in Tokyo-2020. And they had to sweat to beat the Balkans, triumphing by 3 sets to 2 (23-25, 25-17, 25-17, 21-25 and 15-9).
The country’s main star, Earvin Ngapeth, had a decent performance and scored 13 points in the match. The best Frenchmen were Trevor Clevenot (23 points) and Jean Patry (22), while Marko Podrascanin led the Serbs in this regard, with 13.
In the other match of the group, Slovenia had a more relaxed performance against Canada. Despite having an ‘alarm’ in the third set, the team relied on Toncek Stern’s 24 points and won by 3 sets to 1, 25-21, 25-20, 20-25 and 25-21.
Italy and Poland open women’s tournament with victory
Women’s volleyball began its journey at the Olympics this Sunday with the match between Italy and the Dominican Republic. The match was quite balanced and the Dominicans had good moments, especially in the second set. But the Italians, thanks to the collective action and the opponents’ mistakes, managed to debut with the victory with a score of 3 sets to 1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-18).
Poland and Japan entered the field immediately after. The Japanese started the match well, winning the first set, but soon the Poles started to react and turned the match into a very balanced match, closing it in 3 sets to 1, the partial scores were 20-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 28-26. Sarina Nishida from Japan was the top scorer of the match, having scored 26 times, and on the Polish side, Agnieszka Korneluk opened the ranking with 20 points.
