Sheep Thief: Meet the Wild Dragon of “House of the Dragon”

Vermithor and Silverwing were the highlight of the seventh episode of House of the Dragonarrived at Max on Sunday evening (28) with the title The red sowing. However, in the previous episode, the series had vaguely introduced another winged beast that should soon enter the Dance of Dragons: the Sheep Thief (or Roubovelha, in Portuguese).

In the sixth episode of The House of the Dragon (titled The common citizens), there is a scene where Rhaena walks through a field in the Vale of Arryn and discovers a large burned area full of charred bones. When the girl questions Lady Jeyne, we discover that the culprit of the destruction is a wild dragon that feeds on the sheep of the region.

While its name isn’t mentioned in the scene, the creature’s description indicates that it is a sheep thief, who was originally located elsewhere in George R.R. Martin’s story, but ended up in the Valley in the HBO adaptation.

Below, we explain everything about the mysterious Roubovelhas – remembering, of course, that the text has some .

All about Sheepstealer, the sheep thief of the Dragon House

As described in the book Fire and BloodSheepstealer was born during the reign of Jaehaerys I Targaryen and is an aggressive and difficult-tempered dragon, so the “mud brown” beast lived unclaimed for decades and eventually began flying around Dragonstone in search of sheep to feed.

In the original story, Rhaenyra tries to find an owner for Sheepsteal during the Seeding. Denys, the Silver is one of the candidates, but ends up having his arm torn off by the beast. Adam’s brother Alyn of Hull – who recently became the knight of Fumaresia – also tried to tame the creature and failed.

The sheep thief was only tamed by Nettles, a bastard who earned the wild dragon’s trust by bringing him sheep. Apparently, however, this will be another point changed in the live-action adaptation, as the seventh episode shows Rhaena – who has yet to ride a dragon – apparently searching for Oldstalker.

If this were to come to fruition, the character would have to gain greater importance in the plot, as Rhaena was originally only going to participate in the Dance of the Dragons later with the dragon Manhã – who was born when the war was already underway and was one of only four dragons to survive the Dance battle.
