SP State Declares 7-Day Mourning for the Death of Silvio Santos


The presenter died today, at the age of 93, in the capital of Sao Paulo

The State of São Paulo and the municipality of the capital of São Paulo have declared official mourning for seven days due to the death of the presenter and businessman

Silvio Santos,

occurred in the early hours of this Saturday (17).






“The businessman combined his entrepreneurial profile, formed as a teenager as a street vendor, with his powerful and unmistakable voice to create a popular style that captivated the masses. His path on radio and television channels went hand in hand with his business acumen in various segments and head of SBT Carioca, he chose São Paulo as his home since the 1950s”the governor stressed Tarcisio de Freitasin note.

The city of São Paulo also mourned the death of the presenter and, in a statement, declared its deep regret for the death of Silvio Santos. “With deep regret, the Government of the State of São Paulo regrets the death of the businessman and presenter Silvio Santos, aged 93, which occurred this Saturday (17), and decrees official mourning for seven days in the State of São Paulo. Founder of the Brazilian federation System of Television (SBT), he became one of the symbols of Brazilian communication thanks to the simple, direct and charismatic way in which he related to the public”.

“Our feelings go to the Abravanel family, friends, SBT employees and Brazilians of different generations who have had in Silvio Santos one of the most admired personalities”, says the note.

Silvio Santos died at the age of 93 from bronchopneumonia resulting from an influenza infection (H1N1). He was admitted to the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in the capital of São Paulo. There is no information yet on the wake.
