Chantal Loeb was immediately impressed when he was offered the role of Christian Clavier’s wife in the film. However, he hesitated in memory of the Dummies show, live, for which he was invited. “I remember laughing a lot and a lot while playing sketches with him because we were watching his comic force. I was afraid of repeating it at the beginning of the movie.” Laughter was not avoided at all, but the two actors always tried to keep a minimum of seriousness so as not to have to remake the scenes.

The birth of the movie is the result of a fun situation. In 1990, moving house, director Jean-Marie Poirier came up with the idea for this feature film. The filmmaker really found a short text that he wrote during his school days and in which he could already have laid the foundations for what was to become one of the greatest successes of French cinema.

It took Danny Boone a year to write the script for his film. A process that proved difficult: “In the theater, when I make sketches of caricatured, exaggerated characters, it’s conventional and we laugh about it. In cinema it’s more delicate because we show we are in reality, we have to make it believable.”, He explains. He then turned to Frank Magnier, a native of the North, who introduced him to Alexander Charlot. The last lines between them started the script in three months.
