Nonato comments on Fred’s departure from Fluminense: ‘It took me by surprise’

The Italian midfielder revealed that he did not expect the coach to leave the club

Nonato spoke to the press after the 0-0 draw between Fluminense and Corinthians this Saturday, at the Maracanã, in the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. The midfielder commented on the departure of former coach Fred and expressed his surprise at the club’s decision.

– Fred is a guy who is loved by everyone. I am a particular fan because I worked with him as a player and as a coach, but even more so as a person. It took me by surprise (the departure), because it was my first training session after returning from an injury, readjusting to the pitch. I did not expect the news. I have not yet had the opportunity to speak to him, but he is a much-loved person and has left a beautiful legacy here at the club.

Asked about the current situation of the Fluminense group. The number 16 praised Thiago Silva a lot. The defender was praised by his teammate, who indicated him as a leader in the dressing room.

– It’s a difficult moment. As Thiago Silva said at the end of the game, with the team a bit disheartened, calling the responsibility on the wheel. He told everyone to raise their heads, he spoke about the importance of each one, that we have to give something more, and we recognize this. We wanted the fans to know it too. He’s a guy who helped us a lot in this technical aspect.
