Haaland reveals Guardiola’s advice on becoming a ‘better player’

The striker can be productive beyond scoring goals

Scorer of one of Manchester City’s winning goals against Chelsea, Haaland has revealed to the press the advice he received from Pep Guardiola, the team’s manager, regarding his style of play. In an interview with Sky Sports, the Norwegian has shown his desire to be more involved in the team’s attack and to evolve under the Spaniard’s command.

-I want to be more involved, that’s what Pep wants. I want to get more assists and become a better player.

Haaland is recognized as a natural scorer. It is clear, however, that he is an athlete with less participation in complex plays, and it is precisely on this point that Guardiola dreams of improving as a center forward. The ability to score is undeniable: Haaland has already scored 91 official goals with the Manchester City jersey. The number of assists, however, is decidedly lower, 15.

Haaland’s best season hasn’t been with the English club. In 2020-21, wearing the Borussia Dortmund jersey, the Norwegian scored 41 goals and 10 assists. In his first season at City, he came very close, with nine assists on target.

The striker elaborated on the guidance he received from Guardiola.

The best players are the best at the simplest things. Touch with the right and pass with the left. That’s the important thing. Pep tells me that all the time. – the attacker revealed.
