The goalkeeper was the hero of Timão’s ranking in the South American championship
On loan from Flamengo to Corinthians, Hugo Souza was the protagonist of the match against Bragantino, which allowed the Bianconeri to qualify for the quarterfinals of the South American Championship. The goalkeeper’s contract with Timão is on loan and the club is tending to activate the purchase option.
The values are considered relatively low. To have Hugo Souza permanently, Corinthians will have to pay 800 thousand euros (about 4.8 million R$) for 50% of the economic rights.
The goalkeeper’s contract with Timão runs until the end of 2024, and the club paid 200 thousand euros (R$1.19 million) to Flamengo for the loan.
The player himself has already expressed his desire to stay at the São Paulo club. Rubro-Negro president Rodolfo Landim also recently revealed that Timão will have to exercise his buy-out clause.
— I have already shown how happy I am to be here. This conversation is with my coaches, with president Fabinho, but they know my desire to stay, to build a history in this club. I am concerned about playing, helping on the pitch. If it happens, I will be happy, it is an appreciation for my work. I hope that it happens — Hugo said last week, after the first leg against Bragantino.
— I think that if he does well there, there are clauses that allow him to stay, exercising the right of purchase. I think he will end up staying. He is an athlete that we like, he trained in Gávea and we appreciate him. I hope you have a great career there – said Landim, in an interview with the podcast Global Superbet GV.
Before joining Corinthians, Hugo Souza was on loan at Chaves, from Portugal. His former team was relegated to the national championship, but the athlete stood out last season. He was signed by Alvinegro to replace Carlos Miguel, who moved to Nottingham Forest, in England.
