What to expect from Joker: Delirium for Two? Lady Gaga answers

Also starring Joaquin Phoenix, Joker: Delirium for Two is set to premiere in Brazilian cinemas on October 3rd

In recent years, Lady Gaga has slowed down her music releases to focus on acting. Her next big project is Joker: Delirium for Twodirected by Todd Phillips and also starring Joaquin Phoenix (Arthur Fleck). Now, the artist has revealed what to expect from the production, which premieres on October 3 in Brazilian cinemas.

In the feature film, Gaga interprets Harleen “Lee” Quinzela version of Harley Quinn which promises to be quite different. The cast also includes Zazie Beetz (Sophie Dumond), Ken Leung, Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, Harry Lawtey, Steve Cooganbetween others.

During an interview with Variety, Lady Gaga advanced some elements of Joker: Delirium for Two besides her singing and Phoenix. “Todd [Philips, diretor] took a huge leap with this whole concept and with the script, giving the sequel Joker this boldness and complexity,” he said.

“It has music, it has dance, it’s a drama, it’s also a courtroom drama, it’s a comedy, it’s happy, it’s sad,” the actress and singer continued. “It’s a test for [Todd] as a director, he prefers to be creative rather than just tell a traditional love story.”

Right away, Gaga explained better the thing about her vocals and Joaquin Phoenix are not technically perfect: “We asked ourselves what would have to be true for two people to start singing in the middle of a conversation? Where does the music come from when no one can hear it except the characters? Nor Arthurnor Lee are professional singers and should not sound like they do.”

I think we all have an intimate and personal relationship with music, because there is a score to our inner emotional life. A score that no one can usually hear but us. That’s what we tried to capture here. Arthur and Lee. The music inside them.

Finally, she commented how “part of the music is fantasy, part of it is in the scene.” According to Lady Gagaall the songs of Delirium for Two were all played live by an off-camera pianist. In fact, this made post-production “a nightmare” for Todd Phillips.
