The ‘Succession’ actor said that ‘cinema is in a very bad situation’
Although Brian Cox have starred X-Men 2 (2003), he blames Marvel for the supposed decline of cinema. During his participation in Edinburgh International Film Festival On Saturday, the 17th, the actor said: “What’s happening is that television is doing what cinema used to do. I think cinema is in a very bad situation.”
“I think it’s lost its place, in part, because of the larger-than-life element of Marvel and DC and everything else. And I think it’s starting to implode, actually. You’re kind of losing the narrative,” he continued.
The actor of Succession quoted Deadpool & Wolverine as an example of a film that is “making a lot of money” and “will make everyone happy, but in terms of work, it gets diluted in the end.”
“You end up getting the same thing over and over… I mean, I’ve done that kind of thing before [projeto]”, he pondered, remembering that it was his character in X-Men who convinced Logan to become Wolverine. “Deadpool meets the guy… Wolverine, who I created but forgot. When these movies are on, there’s always a part of me [como William Stryker]and they never pay me anything.”
“So it just became a fun time for certain actors to do that kind of thing. When you know that Hugh Jackman can do a little more, Ryan Reynolds… but it’s because they follow that path and it brings in box office. They make a lot of money. You can’t criticize it,” he added.
