The closing of the sixth season ofThe Crown may not mean the definitive end of production. Andy Harriesexecutive producer of the series, said in an interview with BBC (via Deadline) that there is potential for the creation of spin-offs.
Andy explained that the deal made between his production company and Netflix was essential to secure the rights to the series and open up possibilities for projects. According to him, “it’s obviously an open-ended topic. We could go back or we could continue.”
The series followed the history of the British royal family for six decades, focusing on the Queen’s trajectory. Elizabeth IIand this long period offers many opportunities for new narratives. The producer mentioned that, at some point, he believes the series will be revisited, meaning there is a real possibility that new projects related to the series could be developed in the future.
In 2022, the company itself Netflixhad already discussed the possibility of a prequelcentered on characters prior to the reign of Elizabeth II.
