Released in theaters on August 14th, Alien Romulus is off to a great start at the worldwide box office with $113 million already collected! With this 9th film in the viscous Xenomorph franchise, director Fede Alvarez returns to his roots, taking much inspiration from Ridley Scott’s first opus.
Known for his tendency to be very generous with hemoglobin and gore, as evidenced by the Evil Dead remake, the filmmaker stayed true to his reputation with the Romulus sequel.
Warning, the following contains spoilers for the ending of Alien Romulus; If you haven’t seen the movie, go ahead
During the discussion The Hollywood ReporterFede Alvarez talked about how to stage the 4th act in each of his films. The alien Romulus is no exception with the appearance of an absolutely terrifying human-xenomorph hybrid monster called “The Offspring”.
This creature from the underworld was created by Kay (Isabella Merced); Badly injured and ignoring Rain’s (Kylie Spahn) advice, he injects himself with black oil containing xenomorph DNA; The baby she was carrying then grew so fast, Fede Alvarez treated us to a relatively gruesome scene of childbirth.

studio reluctance
This last series was not to the liking of Disney/Fox producers, who expressed their reservations about Fede Alvarez. “Initially they were reluctant to have offspring, but not because they didn’t like it. They were just like, ‘Is this too much? Do we really have to go this far?’The director confides.
Then Fede Alvarez replied: “Yeah, now that you said we shouldn’t do it, I know I’m going to do it. And that’s exactly what we’ve done here. If a Disney-owned company gives you an Alien movie and it immediately says, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ , so you kind of fail, so we pushed the boundaries and I’m glad we did.– pointed out the director.
Therefore, the director was able to capture the ending he wanted with this “descendant”, both disgusting and fascinating, whose design recalls the engineers of Prometheus and Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Part 4 hybrid creature from human and alien. A true vision of pure horror. Alien Romulus hits theaters August 14.
