Medina puts on another show for Fiji in the round of 16
The first Brazilian to compete in the men’s category was Gabriel Medina, a three-time World Tour champion. After a good time with few waves, he got his first relevant score with a 5.07. Then, in the final stretch of the pool, the Brazilian showed what he does best. Medina came out of a huge tube and got an incredible 9.87 (watch the video below). He continued the event, thanks to the triumph over the American Jake Marshall by 14.94 to 12.60.

Next up was Yago Dora to try to take the lead, facing Moroccan Ramzi Boukhiam. He started with a strong pace, quickly getting two scores above 5.50. With a comfortable lead, Yago started to melt in the heat and performed the best maneuvers. He thus changed his score with scores of 7.33 and 6.93 and defeated his rival with a total of 14.26.
Unlike his compatriots, Ítalo Ferreira failed to make it past the eighth-finals. Facing Hawaiian Barron Mamiya, the Rio Grande do Norte athlete had a hard time visualizing the best opportunities in the sea. Despite surfing an incredible total of 14 waves, Ítalo ended his participation with a score of 8.80, against his opponent’s 11.67.
