In two of the best superhero films in history, titled Batman and Batman Returns, Tim Burton directed Michael Keaton in the lead role.
One of the main directors of his generation, Tim Burton made history in superhero movies by commanding Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992), starring Michael Keaton in the role of Bruce Wayne. Now, the filmmaker reflected on both productions.
During an interview with Variety, Burton commented on how there was a freshness in the idea of making a film like the one in 1989, combined with the fact that filming did not take place in Hollywoodbut in England, away from the control of the studio.
“I was lucky because at that time, the word ‘franchise’ didn’t exist. So Batman seemed a little experimental at the time,” he said. “It deviated from what the perception [de um filme de super-herói] could be. So you didn’t hear that kind of feedback from the studio, and being in England, it was even more distant.
We were really able to focus on the movie and not really think about these things that they now think about before you even do it.
