THE Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban) announced that it will sign, on Friday 23, a technical cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Justice and Public Securityaimed at combating fraud, scams and crimes on the Internet. According to the note released by the federation, the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowskiwill be received during a lunch by the chairman of the board of directors of Febraban, Luiz Carlos Trabuco.
The announcement also indicates that the organization’s leaders will present to the ministry’s representatives what the federation has done to prevent and combat fraud, scams and cyber attacks. According to Febraban, the visit is part of the meetings that have been held since 2021 with representatives of the three powers (legislative, executive and judiciary), as well as with international authorities.
Febraban recently raised the alarm that scammers are increasingly using the domain Pix for the practice of virtual crimes – such as Pix scam wrong, for example. Another well-known scam is “8am scam? or “fake employee scam”, in which Criminals pretend to be call center employees banks and ask for confirmation of a supposed purchase, inducing the victim to provide confidential information.
In March 2022, Febraban had already signed an agreement with the Federal Police aimed at creating preventive, educational and repressive measures against cybercrime. At the time, the agreement was signed with the Minister of Justice and Public Security of the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro, Anderson Gustavo Torres. Febraban did not inform about the content of the new document or how it differs from the previous one.
