Alien From ‘Alien: Romulus’ Wasn’t CGI: It’s Robert Bobroczky, The Basketball Player Who Played Him

The new sci-fi movie “Alien: Romulus” is gaining more and more popularity, and its new xenomorph is causing genuine horror among viewers. Although many believed that the mutant was created with the help of CGI or that he was an animatronic robot, the reality is that he was played by a person on screen. Below, we explain who he is and his story.

From basketball to movies: The story of Robert Bobroczkyi, the alien from “Alien: Romulus”

According to the credits of the film, a young man named Robert Bobroczkyi was the one who donned the alien suit. Before making his debut as an actor in films, he stood out in the basketball world for his impressive height of almost 2 meters and 31 centimeters.

Curiously, Bobroczkyi was born tall due to the height of his parents: his father is 2m 15cm and his mother is 1m 90cm, making it an obvious family legacy.

Bobroczkyi, of Romanian descent, was a promising basketball player from his teenage years due to his height and skills on the court. His biggest wish was to join the NBA and in 2016 he moved to Ohio, United States, to study in high school and then enter the university. There he played at Spire Institute, Grand River Academy and Rochester University.

Although he was one step away from achieving his goal, unfortunately he began to suffer from back pain and other physical problems due to his height, which prevented him from entering the NBA.

Despite these physical challenges, Bobroczkyi did not shy away from the spotlight and found a new opportunity in the entertainment industry. The young former basketball player caught the attention of film producers who were looking for a person with exceptional physical features to play creatures in science fiction and fantasy films, with his height being a key element in bringing unique characters to life.

It was then that the filmmakers of “Alien: Romulus”, upon seeing him, knew he was perfect for the role. His height and slim build fit perfectly with their vision of the alien’s movements and physical appearance.

The director of “Alien Romulus” was impressed with Robert Bobroczkyi

Fede Álvarez, the director of the feature film, explained in an interview with “USA Today” that Robert left him more than impressed because, although he had no acting experience, he did a great job playing the alien, half alien and half man. .

“She gave an incredible performance for someone who’s never done it before. Being tall is one thing, next to Cailee Spaeny who’s 5’10,” that’s magical, but she really brought a talent that blew us away Isabela Mercy face to face and it’s fantastic.”

At the moment, Bobroczkyi has not commented anything about his experience working on the “Alien” saga or if he has any other proposals for film work, but apparently horror fans would like him to play another monster again.
