‘I didn’t delete anyone’s VHS’: The Crow 2024 director responds to criticism

Rupert Sanders is a man of challenges. Discovered thanks to Snow White and the Huntsman, he then signed on for the live-action (American) version of Ghost in the Shell, played by Scarlett Johansson. And we also owe him the new The Crow, which passed through the hands of several directors for about fifteen years.

If this is indeed a new adaptation of James O’Barry’s comic book and not a remake of the 1994 film, which was tragically famous for the on-set death of its lead actor Brandon Lee, this new feature film has become a topic. Many criticisms since its inception.

In particular, from Alex Proyas, the director of the first film adaptation of The Adventures of Eric Draven. Who said they weren’t excited to see their co-star’s work when the trailer was released, but who regretted what they did with Brandon Lee’s legacy.

It would be good for people to know that this is a reinvention, very different from the original film, and that the latter still exists.

Therefore, by the way, Rupert Sanders answered to him in the interview Entertainment WeeklyWhere we talked about the mildly cool way in which the project was received before the release: “I think a lot of people are too active online and too little in real life”He begins with what is arguably not his best-seen argument.

“Get out, do something and spend less time throwing stones. I think it would be good for people to know that this is a reinvention, very different from the original, and that the latter still exists. I didn’t delete anyone’s VHS. You can still go see this movie in hopes that it resonates with the people who loved it in their teenage years.

“This is my version of the text. My adaptation of James’ graphic novel, which I love.” The retelling, directed by Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs, Danny Huston and Sami Bouajilla, can be found in cinemas from August 21.
