Stranger Things: Is This Character Really Dead? Creators respond!

Warning, spoilers. It is recommended that you watch Season 4 of Stranger Things before you continue reading this article.

Stranger Things Season 4, and more specifically its Volume 2, has had its share of deaths. There was a tragic death that moved fans to tears, and there was another “death” that was a little more complicated. Despite the gang’s ingenious plan to infiltrate the Upside Down to fight Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower), one gang member doesn’t quite make it.

It’s about Max (Sadie Sink), who serves as bait, killed by the big bad to unlock the final version and launch it upside down at Hawkins. The heartbreaking cries of Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) accompanied the last words of Max, who lost his vision and died within minutes. Until he was “saved” by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who revived his body.

A few days later we find Max in the hospital. He is in a coma and his future looks very uncertain. So what is it really?

The answer is yes and no. The Duffer Brothers talked about Max’s condition at the end of Season 4 on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Matt said his body was there, but not his mind: “He’s brain dead, but he’s alive. He’s brain dead, and he’s also blind.” Ross Duffer added: “And all his bones are broken, but he’s fine.”

Seeing Max in a hospital bed, we won’t say the same, but we should expect to see him in Season 5. We don’t yet know if the young woman can get away with it without consequences, but we can’t imagine. The Duffer brothers leave Max on his hospital bed during season five.

Eleven and the others will definitely try to save her and restore her soul by fighting Vecna, if fan theories are to be believed. For them, if the gang manages to kill Vecna, they can revive Max and restore his mind and mental functions. We’ll have to wait for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things to find out.
