After a strong storm, the ship sinks not far from the coast of Africa. The only survivors of the tragedy, a couple and their baby reach the coast and build a cabin in the jungle to survive in this wild and hostile environment that seems never to have been touched by human hands. But the wooden fences of their makeshift home cannot protect them from the clutches of Sabor, a fearsome leopard who sows fear in the surrounding area.
Also, the victim of the beast that devoured her baby was warned by the mother gorilla one day by the child’s cry. When he learns that the little man’s parents did not survive, he decides to raise the boy himself, within his own clan.
- Tonight with the Family: 26 years ago, Disney Studios explored a whole new world with this epic film.
The end of the golden age
The ’90s are coming to a close, and Fantasia 2000 aside (which I’ll talk about soon), Tarzan is the last gem of a decade that’s still considered one of the best times in Disney history.
Like the apotheosis of this unforgettable era, Enchanted Studio’s 37th animated classic skillfully closes a glorious golden age that notably saw the birth of such works as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and King Leo before Disney moved on. A less prosperous time.
Spectacular performance
Technically, Tarzan is simply breathtaking. Especially thanks to the new technology deep canvasAllowing the studio’s artists to combine hand-drawn characters with computer-generated settings, certain jungle chase sequences are virtuosic as never seen before.
Visually very impressive, these moments of bravery are all the more affecting because they invariably serve a deep, powerful and painful story carried by rich and complex characters.
With the magical brushwork of Glenn Keene and the irresistible songs of Phil Collins, Tarzan is one of the greatest shows Disney Studios has ever brought to us.
What will you like…
- Hilarious supporting characters including Toki the gorilla and Tantor the elephant.
- Tarzan’s dizzying chases and slides through the jungle. Indeed, this movie is a real attraction!
What could be bothering them…
- Sabor’s leopard, whose teeth and claws are best avoided.
- Evil researcher Clayton, deceitful and evil, but served as the unmistakable voice of Gerard Rinaldi (also Rattigan) in the French version.
