The actor has revealed for the first time how his return to the franchise as Doctor Doom was forged.
The return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the novelties of the year. The actor will play the villain Doctor Doom, as announced a month ago at San Diego Comic-Con, but there was still a doubt to be resolved about his true identity: is the character that Downey Jr. will give life to Victor Von Doom or an alternate version of Tony Stark?
The actor has finally broken his silence on how his return to Marvel was forged alongside the studio’s president Kevin Feige and confirmed the true villain he’ll be playing. In THR, he revealed that it was during a meeting with Feige at the Disneyland attraction Stark Flight Lab that his new MCU destiny began. Susan DowneyAlso present was the actor’s producer and wife.
“Susan and I were with Feige and at one point he says, ‘I keep thinking about if I came back…’ And Susan says, ‘Wait, wait, come back how?'” he begins. “So we both realized over time that this is another one of those things that dispels any doubt that anyone might have had about this guy, a very sophisticated creative thinker, about how we don’t go back, how we don’t disappoint expectations, how we can continue to exceed those expectations. And then he mentioned Victor Von Doom, and I looked up the character and said, ‘Wow.’ Then Kevin said, ‘Let’s do Victor Von Doom right.'”
