In Joker: Delirium for Two, Lady Gaga plays Lee, a version of Harley Quinn that promises to be very different from those seen previously
One of the most anticipated films of 2024, Joker: Delirium for Two will have an official premiere at 81st Venice International Film Festival. This Wednesday, the 4th, before the screening, the cast (Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix) and director (Todd Phillips) gave a press conference to talk about the production, which premieres on October 3, 2024 in Brazilian cinemas.
At a certain point in the interview, Gaga explained how the film approaches music in a “very special and nuanced way.” Delirium for Two will be a “jukebox musical,” in which the characters sing existing songs, rather than songs written for the plot.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say this is a musical. In many ways, it’s very different. The music is used to really give the characters a way to express what they want to say, because the scene and the dialogue aren’t enough,” he said.
Finally, Lady Gaga explained how she and Joaquin Phoenix sang during filming, rather than being dubbed in post-production with better singing techniques. To assist the actors, a pianist played the songs behind the camera: “We did a lot of that live.”
