Cursed movies: they were plagued by paranormal phenomena and fatal events

For skeptics, it’s just a marketing strategy or mere coincidence. But for horror fans, coincidences don’t exist when it comes to the paranormal world, since it’s all about negative energies that are drawn to the hint.

“Hell’s Bell” (1973)

The film is about a young man who is locked up in an asylum against his will. When he succeeds, he leaves and seeks revenge. The director was Claudio Guerín and for the last scene he thought of shooting in a cursed church.

It is said that the church of Galicia was never finished, because whoever built it fell from the bell tower. The man died instantly and a rumor began that anyone trying to finish his work would meet the same fate.

Claudio Guerín ordered the construction of a false tower to complete the unfinished part. To set it up they made a kind of catwalk.

While shooting a scene on the runway in question, the director made a strange move in which he lost his balance and fell. Guerín fell victim to the curse and died instantly.

“The Exorcist” (1973)

“The Exorcist” is one of the most popular horror movies of all time. The story revolves around a little girl who is possessed by a demon, so her mother asks some priests for help.

Several unexplained incidents occurred during filming, such as fires on several sets. In addition, nine people in the production died, including actor Jack MacGowran (due to complications from the flu).

This series of phenomena led to a six-month delay, so the director, William Friedkin, called in a priest to bless the entire set.

It should be noted that the film was inspired by a real case, involving a 13-year-old boy who was given the nickname Roland Pérez. In 1949 he underwent almost 30 exorcisms to free him from a demon.

The Prophecy (1976)

In the bosom of a wealthy family, a baby is born who turns out to be the antichrist. The terrible deeds the boy commits are overlooked and dismissed as coincidences, until a strange prophecy is revealed that reveals his evil nature.

The curse of this film began with the suicide of the son of the protagonist, Gregory Peck, a few months before filming. In addition, a series of lightning strikes struck the planes on which the production members were traveling.

In addition, one of the most devastating incidents happened with a trainer who was attacked by one of his tigers and died just one day after he was hired to film some scenes.

After the premiere, the special effects supervisor and his assistant had a car accident in Holland, which resulted in the death of the girl, who was decapitated by glass, coinciding with one of the film’s deaths.

“Poltergeist” (1982)

This is one of the most famous cursed movies in Hollywood. Four main characters died throughout the trilogy: the older sister (Dominique Dunne), the reverend (Julian Beck), a witch (Will Sampson) and the 12-year-old protagonist, Heather O’Rourke.

JoBeth Williams, the actress who played the mother of the family, theorizes that the curse came about because in the first installment they used real skeletons, taken from the morgue, and this shows a lack of respect for the dead.

“The Exorcism of Emily Rose” (2005)

A priest is accused of murdering a young woman he was treating for demonic possession.

The lead actress, Jennifer Carpenter, had to pause her career and take time to recover from playing the role of a haunted teenager. The actress was so obsessed with the paranormal that she heard strange noises and her radio turned on out of nowhere at 3 a.m. — a key hour in the film.

As in ‘The Exorcist’, the story is based on true events. Annelise Michel is the girl’s real name and her case attracted media attention as it resulted in a lawsuit for negligence.

Annelise had been diagnosed as a psychiatric patient, but was never treated, and that’s when the much-contested exorcism took place.
