World number 1 Jannik Sinner stamped his passport to the semi-finals of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season, played in New York, after winning a crazy match against Daniil Medvedev.
The Italian overcame the fifth-ranked player and 2021 tournament champion by 3 sets to 1 with partial scores of 6/2 1/6 6/1 6/4 after 2 hours and 39 minutes on Arthur Ashe’s center court, the largest in the world with a capacity of 24,000 people.
This will be the first time the Australian Open champion has reached the US Open semi-final and he will face Britain’s Jack Draper, who will be playing his first Grand Slam semi-final.
Sinner beats Medvedev for the sixth time in thirteen matches and avenges his defeat in the Wimbledon quarterfinals. The two reached the Australian Open final with a five-set victory for Jannik.
The match was crazy with both players proving to be much superior in the first three sets. The fourth set was the most balanced with Medvedev having a break opportunity, not taking advantage of it and then Sinner breaking, taking the score to 5-3. He had match points, Daniil saved, but Sinner confirmed his authority on serve.
