The United States Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced on Tuesday (7/12) the nominees for its annual Emmy Awards.

The biggest award in the American television and streaming industry has consecrated several audience favorites, such as “Stranger Things”, “Round 6” and “Euphoria”. But the champion of nominations was a critically acclaimed production, the drama “Succession,” which garnered 25 nominations for its third season on HBO.

Among the comedies, Apple TV +’s “Ted Lasso” took the lead, with 20 nominations, the same number as HBO Max’s most remembered miniseries, “The White Lotus”.

Other highlights of the selection were the comedies “Hacks” and “Only Murders in the Building”, with 17 nominations, and the drama “Euphoria”, with 16. In addition, four tied titles with 14 nominations each: “Barry” , “Dopesick”, “Rupture” and “Round 6”. In particular, of the aforementioned productions, only “Round 6” was released by Netflix, the largest streaming platform in the world.

“Round 6”, by the way, became the first non-English language production to be nominated in the Best Drama Series category. But that wasn’t the only historical indication of the day. Zendaya also went down in history as the youngest actress to be nominated twice in her category, as well as the youngest producer to be nominated for the best series award with “Euphoria”.

The 74th Emmy Awards also restored HBO’s reign, with 140 nominations (including HBO Max productions), after being surpassed by Netflix last year. This year, Netflix was far behind, with 105. Even less than traditional HBO (excluding HBO Max productions), which had 108 nominations.

Good results also for Hulu (Star + in Brazil), with 58, and Apple TV +, with 51, with strong growth compared to previous years.

Despite the amount of prizes up for grabs, high-profile series were left off the list, as did top-notch stars like Nicole Kidman and even Selena Gomez, a favorite for Best Actress in a Comedy, who ended up snubbed despite her ‘inclusion of his “Only Murders in the Building” partners, Steven Martin and Martin Short, in the men’s category.

There was no room for the cast of “Stranger Things” either, despite Sadie Sink’s highly regarded performance. The series got 13 nominations, but in technical categories.

It is worth mentioning that Part 2 of Season 4 was for Emmy 2023, as the award only considers episodes that premiered between June 1, 2021 and May 31 of this year in the United States. That’s why “The Boys” also didn’t appear on the list.

See below for a list of top award nominations. In addition to these, there are many others – such as editing, photography, make-up, etc. – for a total of 119 categories, which lead to the division of the prize into three evenings. The first two evenings are dedicated to technical trophies and are scheduled for 2 and 3 September. The major Emmys will be awarded on September 12, at a gala ceremony in Los Angeles, but the address and host have not yet been announced.
