Brazil beats Colombia to reach 29th consecutive South American final

For the 29th consecutive time, Brazil will decide the South American women’s basketball title. This Friday (6), the Brazilian team defeated Colombia by 91 to 51 in the semifinals of the tournament and advanced to the final. The opposing team in the decision abandons the clash between Argentina and Venezuela, which will be played today, at 21:00.

Brazil is the biggest winner of the South American women’s basketball tournament, with 27 titles in 37 editions. In addition, the team has only fallen off the podium twice in history, in 1948 and 1950. However, the super hegemony could be in danger for this year’s tournament. This is because Argentina, a possible finalist, is having a great championship and wants to repeat what it achieved in 2018, when it defeated Brazil in the final.

The two countries also faced each other in the opening match of the current competition, with Argentina winning 75 to 48. The brothers are thus the only undefeated team in the tournament and will have to play the final against Brazil, this Saturday, at 21:00.

The game

Despite qualifying 2nd in Group A, Brazil was a big favorite against Colombia, who was leading Group B. In the match, the Colombians started well and were ahead for almost the entire first quarter. In the end, however, the Brazilian team took the lead and closed the period with a 22-17 lead.

From that moment on, Brazil set the pace of the game and dominated all the actions. The second period ended with the score of 45 to 27 for the Brazilians. The Brazilian team did not give up until the end of the game and ended the game with a 40-point advantage, the second biggest victory of the team in the current edition. The main player of Brazil was the point guard Izabela Nicoletti, who was the scorer of the game with 20 points, in addition to having seven rebounds and one assist.
