The first trailer for the film adaptation of the hit video game Minecraft was released last Wednesday. And fans of the game are definitely not thrilled with these first images.
With over 300 million copies sold worldwide, the sandbox game released in 2011 quickly became a cult hit. 10 years into the project, the film was delayed multiple times before finally being renewed for 2022. The trailer quickly cooled off fans who eventually saw it as a parody of the game.
In the feature film, starring an almost unrecognizable Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Daniel Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon and Jemaine Clement, four misfits suddenly find themselves through a mysterious portal into the world: Strange Land. Cubic wonders fueled by imagination.
In order to return home, they will have to learn to master this world and protect it from evil piglins and zombies, while embarking on a magical quest with an unexpected expert.

More likes than likes
As soon as the trailer was released online, netizens criticized the cast, visual style, settings, and lack of understanding of the plot. Warner Bros. On Pictures’ YouTube channel, the trailer got over 20 million views in 3 days, but the number of likes (thumbs down) is more than the number of likes.
To date, the trailer has actually garnered over 902,000 dislikes compared to 519,000 likes…
On AlloCiné, netizen Fenrir wonders why Warner didn’t go with an animated film in the comments of the trailer article:
“But what an idea… how could such an idea be proven? This has a way of irritating me… why a live action movie? for what Minecraft is made for animation! So Super Mario Bros didn’t work as a lesson?? It’s amazing…”
Minecraft is made for animation!
For his part, andiran23 finds that the film “He looks confused, disgusted. As someone who has never played Minecraft, it doesn’t appeal to me at all. Other than that, well, it’s a teaser, but it doesn’t even try to introduce the story or world. I don’t see what I need to understand. “

Minecraft
Jobey T is interested in making a movie adapted from the Minecraft game: “I already don’t like the game because the ultra-pixelated craziness isn’t my thing at all, and story-wise we’re close to nothing: so why make an angry movie about it?!?!?!
This is usually a project that should remain in its original environment, as it is only suitable for this particular format. And stop putting Jason Momoa in such a mess, he’s going to die eventually.”
And the comments on X’s side are no gentler…
Let’s be honest, this movie looks like a sketch made by big influencers, but with a budget multiplied by a hundred.

You know, it’s really sad that I could watch a Minecraft movie better by myself just messing with blender settings… and I’m not very good at it.

“It’s really sad to say, but I could make a Minecraft movie better than this, even though I only played on Blender’s settings and I’m not even good at it. Warner Brothers, what are you really doing. ?”
There is no way this movie will be released, it must be a marketing ploy because it looks so bad. So random. And I’m not even going to get Jason Momoa started 💀#MinecraftMovie pic.twitter.com/5M1Ktigvyx

“The movie has no chance of being released, it’s a marketing ploy because it looks so bad! Who wants to play Jack Black on Steve? It’s so random. I’m not even talking about Jason Momoa.”
