Zorro is back on Paramount+! The streaming platform actually put the series together with Jean Dujardin under the guise of the Masked Rider. In this remake of the hero’s legend, the Oscar-winning actor goes all out and gets involved in many action scenes.
Jean Dujardin becomes the famous “Zorro”
But did the star of The Artist or even OSS 117 perform his stunts? At the AlloCiné microphone, Benjamin Charbit (fiction co-creator) and Jean Dujardin show us how this impressive sequence came together. The author explains:
“Jean did many stunts. He wanted to have fun! He wanted it to be a physical role. He often says, “I’m an exterior actor.” Already, he walks majestically on horses Mario Luraski . He really worked out how to walk a Spanish nobleman. The sword, the fight… Jean was very professional and asked, “How far do I go before I get hurt?” He did, I think, 90% of the stunts.“
“You must eat and eat…”
The main person concerned, for his part, confirms that he was fully engaged in the vast majority of his stunts: “I went back to Mario Luraski, our master, who taught us all to ride horses in the cinema. Well, by the way. But I have a big story with him because he was the one who taught me how to ride Lucky Luke.”
“(…) He taught me to calm myself, watch the horse, think, play. And then, together with Mario Luraski, we had to rehearse for, I don’t know, four, five months for every fight, you remember. Jean Dujardin. So not every day, but there were eight, nine choreographies. You had to do scales, work on grammar and eat, eat, eat, eat. That’s all. You have to learn, basically, to break free from it.“
In Zorro, Jean Dujardin is excellent as the rider, a role he was also written for despite having dreamed of playing the character as a child. The actor is having a blast in this project and it shows! The actor is no less touched at other times…
The aesthetic of the series is refined thanks to brilliant costumes, great sets and… those famously accurate action scenes. While we may regret the rather classic structure of the episodes, we can easily get carried away by the new tricks of the vigilantes in black.
Family entertainment that will no doubt appeal to a wider audience when it airs on France 2 in a few months… For those who are more impatient, Zorro is now available on Paramount+
