Who would have thought that the Count of Monte Cristo would go so far? That it would be better than both parts of The Three Musketeers combined? Currently, the feature film by Mathieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellier is on its way to eight million viewers. And he’ll probably outdo them when Masquerade kicks off on TF1 this Sunday, September 8.
Released in November 2022 after an out-of-competition screening at the Cannes Film Festival, this is the fourth feature directed by Nicolas Bedos. and the second in a row, in which he directs Pierre Nini, the headliner of a cast that also features Isabelle Ajan, François Cluse and Marine Vact.
The film was broadcast for the first time in encrypted form on French television at the end of the sunny summer for the fiasco star in cinemas, thanks to the joint success of The Count of Monte Cristo and Vice 2, in which he once again lends himself. His voice scares the character. And it’s behind the microphone that we’ll find him in less than a month.
Maya, give me a title
In 2023, Pierre Nini played Michel Gondry. Or almost, in a book of decisions. A comedy of cinema, wit and sickness, in which the author of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind returns (without specific reference) to the depression he faced during the editing of L’Écume des days.
A year and 462,939 viewers later, the two men reunited for the animated film: Maya, Give Me the Title. Out in our theaters on October 2, the feature film tells the story of a father who, in order to keep in touch with his daughter living in another country and continue telling her stories, creates a cartoon from the title, in which he is the hero. He invented it.
As is often the case with the director, poetry is to be part of the adventure told by Pierre Nin and which, we are told, should appeal to young and old alike. And birth calls to certain parents?
Guru
When Maya, Give Me the title hits our cinemas, Pierre Nini dives into a completely different register, this time in live action, thanks to his teaming up with Yann Gozlan. After Perfect Man and Black Box, the duo will offer us a new thriller.
Where the titular guru will be the character played by Pierre Nin, who must turn to the darker side in this feature film that promises “An unprecedented dive into the world of coaching, through the toxic rise of a personal development ‘guru’.” Expected to release in 2026, with no specific date set at this time, the film currently only has the actor in the cast.
and then
But it needs to happen quickly, as filming is set to begin this fall. Before then, perhaps, we’ll have news of Irrésistibles, a new production by Hugo Gellin (who directed it at Comme des Frères), presented as a choral film set in the world of music. Or from Feuilleman, a superhero story announced by Prime Video in June 2023, which is still in draft, due to the lack of any news.
Let’s not forget the film dedicated to Marc de la Flamme and Le Flambeau, in which it would be surprising to see the appearance of Dr. Ziff, given his popularity in the series worn by Jonathan Cohen.
