“See you at the cinema”… With these few words, Kevin Costner officially announced his departure from the Yellowstone series. After months of hiatus, the American actor took to social media a few weeks ago to confirm that he will not be returning to filming the final episodes of Season 5 of the Western series.
Final departure from Yellowstone?
After a fifteen-year absence, Kevin Costner returned to directing with Horizon Mural. After the first part appeared in Cannes and was released in cinemas this summer, the latter presented the second opus of his XXL Western at the Venice Film Festival. Also during the promotion of the film we managed to get an exclusive interview with the actor/director.
We will have the opportunity to talk more about this personal project, the release date of which is not yet known in France. But our meeting with Kevin Costner was also an opportunity to talk about Yellowstone. So we asked him if he’d be open to returning to the series one day, despite his recent statements.
To our surprise, the latter answered “There is always hope” to return to the series. But not without conditions: “I would love to come back to the show, but it would require someone to send me all the scripts. And if I like what they’re offering, then I’ll come back.”
Horizon or Yellowstone, you have to choose!
Once again, John Dutton’s interpreter puts the ball back in Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan’s court. Kevin Costner’s departure is said to be due to delays in delivering the scripts for season 5. The latter was unable to make himself available as the shooting of the series was going on simultaneously with his film Horizon 3.
But the door doesn’t appear to be finally closed, and Yellowstone fans can see a glimmer of hope for John Dutton’s return to the series. Provided, of course, that the fate he’s dealt in subsequent episodes doesn’t finally seal his fate…
