The procedure also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin
The type of body that each individual idealizes for themselves little by little stops being a dream and materializes into an at least accessible reality. New advances in aesthetic medicine emerge frequently, providing new treatments and improving existing ones. The fight against localized fat is one of them. In Brazil, in particular, new developments in this area are gaining support from the public, which increasingly turns to specialized clinics.
The main reason for this demand is to improve self-esteem. “We see a large number of people who are dissatisfied with their bodies and, as a result, suffer from low self-esteem. The extent of this impact on emotional health affects professional results but also the life and interpersonal relationships of individuals. In addition, there is a growing number of obese people. This is very worrying,” analyzes Karine Maia, a biomedical doctor specialized in advanced facial and body aesthetics and preventive health.
In fact, the country has seen a significant increase in the obese population. The Ministry of Health estimates that, equal to or greater than 30 kg/m², is the minimum parameter to enter the obesity category. Already the World Obesity Atlas (WOF) 2024 stresses that, in 2020, more than 15 million children were in the same circumstance. By 2035, they will exceed the threshold of 20 million obese children.
In the case of localized fat, the most recent technological innovation in Brazil is the endolaser, a treatment that has proven to be very effective in this type of extraction. So much so that it is gaining ground and replacing traditional liposuction surgery, especially for the safety it offers to patients who are duly evaluated and indicated for the procedure. The treatment is performed through an optical fiber inserted subcutaneously, that is, under the skin, where the laser parameters are chosen subjectively for each area to be treated.
“The laser will provide energy, weakening the molecular structure of fat, called triglycerides. It breaks down the molecules, part of which will be metabolized by the liver. Recovery is faster than with liposuction,” compares Karine Maia.
The biomedical doctor also reveals that the laser has another advantage: its thermal effect activates the production of collagen and elastin fibers, essential for maintaining the elasticity and firmness of the skin. “In other techniques, there is a risk of the skin becoming flaccid after the procedure. The endolaser significantly reduces the risk of serious complications and also activates the solution to combat possible sagging,” he explains.
Karine Maia emphasizes that the treatment is especially effective in specific areas such as the abdomen, thighs and arms. Body shaping, which makes many people’s dreams come true, is performed with maximum precision using the laser. However, she warns, it is very important that the treatment is performed by a qualified professional. “We are talking about equipment with a high precision power and that performs a breaking process. Therefore, the result will only be the desired one based on the quality of the person performing the treatment,” she warns.
However, he says that each case is specific and that the patient’s wishes must be in line with the possibilities offered by the procedure. “The first step is to talk to this professional, find out what the limitations of the endolaser are and to what extent the treatment will lead to the expected result. It offers very effective results, but not based on miracles. You must first understand the circumstances and the purposes of the treatment,” he concludes.
