Sao Paulo’s new midfielder arrives on a one-year loan from Belgrano (ARG); Longo could debut on Sunday against Cruzeiro

Fresh from his arrival at San Paolo, Argentine midfielder Santiago Longo was presented on Tuesday (10), more than a week after his arrival in Brazil. In his first press conference, the midfielder listed his characteristics:

“I am a defensive midfielder. My characteristics are recovering the ball, intensity, infecting my teammates and when I play, always being an option, playing forward, playing and trying to infect my teammates to give them the chance to leave. I am a player who I consider intelligent and I try to put all my strength on the field”, commented Santiago Longo.

The midfielder arrives on loan from Belgrano (ARG) until August 29, 2025. The athlete is 26 years old and in his career he has only played for the Argentine club, where he has been since 2014. He is in fact an old acquaintance of Galoppo.

“I spent 12 years at Belgrano. It was a very important club, which marked me and helped me grow as a player and as a person. It was a long time. I had offers and I always prioritized staying at the club, because for me it was very important to play in a South American team. When Sao Paulo appeared, I didn’t hesitate for a second. It’s a very big club and I was very excited to accept this great challenge”, Santiago Longo recalled.

First in sight

Santiago Longo, 26, arrives in a position considered lacking at Morumbis. After all, the club lost Alisson and Pablo Maia to serious injuries and has Bobadilla and Luiz Gustavo as current starters. In this transfer window, the Tricolor also signed Marcos Antônio, who was at Lazio, in Italy, and was coveted by Flamengo.

The new midfielder of Sao Paulo will be able to play in the Copa do Brasil only from the semi-finals onwards, obviously if the Tricolor advances in the competition. Longo is thus living with the expectation of making his debut with the club against Cruzeiro, on Sunday (15), at 18:30, at the Brasileirão.
